The Southbridge Towers Adult and Senior Citizen Activities Center
The Southbridge Senior Center is a separate not-for-profit 501(c) 3 member corporation comprised of residents 55 years of age or older and governed by officers and a board of directors elected annually. It was founded to sponsor various activities for senior residents living within the SBT complex and in the immediate vicinity. These activities include trips, recreation activities in the SBT community room, arts and crafts and exercise classes, including health fairs and seminars in medical, cultural and social subjects. The Center employs a Program Coordinator and various part-time staff to coordinate these activities. As well, the Center has a part-time certified social worker employed and supervised by Hamilton-Madison House, and funded, at least until June 2011, by a grant of the Lower Manhattan Community Development Corporation (LMDC). Working in close collaboration with SBT management personnel, this service has become vital to overseeing the needs of aging-in seniors with chronic health problems and at various stages of dementia. The Center is also supported by services provided by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York and the NY Downtown Hospital, and IS funded in large part by Southbridge Towers, Inc. and with grants from the offices of Assemblyman Sheldon Silver, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Council Member Margaret Chin and Borough President Scott Stringer. Funds from these offices are administered through the NYS Office for the Aging (SOFA) and the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA). For more information, email us at email@example.com.
